SOLs

Today I got my first batch of SOL scores, for my B1, B2, and Bridge Virginia and US History classes. I was really excited by my students scores for B1 and B2. 89% passed in B1 and 21% passed advanced. 87% passed in B2 and 26% passed advanced. I even had one girl in B2 get a perfect 600.

Bridge, on the other hand, did not do too hot. It's a co-taught class with several special education students in it. That class only had 60% pass and 5% pass advanced. Some students really surprised me with their good scores, and it was cool to see some of them get excited when I told them what they got. One girl blew out my eardrum with her excited scream. Overall, though, it was a disappointment. Several of them didn't even score high enough to take the expedited retest, which is unfortunate. One missed the expedited retest cut-off by 1 point (needed a 375, got a 374).

That took my pass rate from an awesome 88% to a not so exciting 79%. It's still better than last year, and I feel better about it, but, it could have been better.

Tomorrow A2 and A3 World History classes take theirs. Hopefully they'll do well and really impress me. We shall see!

I'm sure Lauren will post some about Memorial Day a little later on. We have been wanting a grill for a year now but have never gotten one. This weekend Sears had 20% off Kenmore grills, so we decided that it was something we would use, we've been wanting it a long time, and most importantly we could afford to buy it and pay CASH (Dave Ramsey...). So last night I made our first meal on the grill. It tasted really good, and I had fun cooking outside.

I guess that's it for now!

Change of Plans

Well, so much for the weekend at the lake. Unfortunately, I started to not feel that great, so we packed up everything last night and decided to come home. Sorry, we didn't get any pictures while we were there! Andrew did catch 2 catfish and a few sunfish, and I managed to catch a big carp! Hopefully we will get back down to the lake soon to make up for this weekend, but for now we're just enjoying the leftovers from all the food that I packed.

So, this is my first time posting on our blog...for now we don't have a more creative title than "Andrew & Lauren's blog" ... so any suggestions would be great. We're not that great at coming up with creative but not cheesy names. Hopefully this will give all of our family and friends a nice, fun way to be able to keep up with our "exciting" lives beyond facebook status updates! I'm also working on a blog of good recipes that I have tried. It is also in it's very beginning stages, so keep that in mind when there is only one recipe on it right now! You can check it out at www.laurensrecipebook.blogspot.com. Well, I think I am going to go lay back down on the couch and try to feel better!

Memorial Day Weekend

First and foremost, welcome to our blog. I've decided that I'll go ahead and be the first one to do a post.

This past week has been pretty busy. Lauren has been working really hard at work getting caught up on the new "digits" they were just assigned last week. My students have been taking SOL tests last week. All of my Virginia and U.S. History classes have finished theirs, but I haven't received any scores yet. My World History II students take their SOL next week on Wednesday. I always think that the SOL tests are much more stressful on the teachers than they are on the students. I'm not exactly sure why, maybe it's the fact that your entire year is judged based on a 60 question tests that you don't even take!

So, to get away from all that work and business, we're heading out to the lake for Saturday and Sunday, and coming home Sunday afternoon. Hopefully the weather will be nice, the water will be warm, and the fish will be biting! We'll be sure to post some pictures when we get home (hopefully in time for the Coca Cola 600 on Sunday).
